Cultural divides

al Zaidi's shoe throwing demonstrates a sharp schism between basic cultural views. Throughout the Islamic world he is considered a hero.

Meanwhile in the alleged western world, Bush comes off well too. Commentators marvel at the old boy's reflexes. And he comes a hero.

This is going to take a lot of work.

Hey, shoes are nothing but symbolic! They threw bricks at Pierre Elliott Trudeau and he didn't even flinch. Maybe bricks are less symbolic but they're a lot more serious projectiles.

I wonder what kind of reflexes and intestinal fortitude we could expect from our current crop of politicians?

I guess, if Dubya had caught the shoes and fired them back at the guy, then I would have been impressed.
