Grey Cup sucks

Well I missed the Grey Cup this year because the greed monsters of CTV decided not to show the football contest on broadcast television. For that reason I am not getting Argo tickets next season.

That was the very first Grey Cup since the beginning of the CFL television era not to be broadcast over the airwaves and made freely available to all Canadians.

It's very sad, it makes me sick and it's the future.

It has taken much longer than I anticipated but I did predict all Championship games would eventually end up on pay-to-view cable or satellite. In this case, TSN bought the rights to every single CFL game this year and that's why you couldn't see the Grey Cup, unless you could afford cable or satellite.

I'd like to blame CTV too but it wasn't their fault.

Back when Rogers started installing cable in Toronto and enticing everyone to purchase the service and tear down their antennas, I predicted they were flat out lying about two things:

First they said if you purchased cable, you'd never have to watch another commercial for the rest of your life because what the hell, you were already paying Rogers for the signal, neh? Of course you wouldn't have to pay a premium to watch a bunch of lousy commercials!!!!

That promise didn't last as long as it took to install cable in most of the buildings in Toronto.

You don't suppose Ted Rogers was lying to us, do you? Nah! Rich guy like that? He'd never be so freaking duplicitous and greedy, would he?

Of course the second prediction is now coming true.

Last year the Super Bowl was televised by The NFL Network. The were 'kind enough', after they sold all of their own commercial time and collected all the money from cable and satellite subscriptions, to sell the same product a third, fourth, fifth etcetera time to all the other other broadcast media.

That was really kind of them, selling the exact same product over and over and over again.

Of course, they did seriously consider forcing everyone who wanted to watch the Super Bowl to subscribe to The NFL Network but wiser, greedier heads prevailed, I guess.

It's taken some time for my predictions to come true but I can clearly see we're now about to enter a Brave New World when it comes to championship games.

Woo Fucking Hoo!
